Terms and Conditions
Last updated: September 10, 2026
These terms govern the use of Historias en Japonés: the website historiasenjapones.com (the “site”) and the mobile app for iOS and Android (the “app”). Together, the “service”. By using either one you accept these terms. They are written to be clear; if anything is unclear, write to us at victormanuelfrancodev@gmail.com.
The App License Agreement (EULA) section applies specifically to the app and is the license agreement linked from the App Store and Google Play.
What we offer
The service is an educational platform for learning Japanese by reading stories, with an N5 course, a dictionary, kanji, kana practice, and spaced review. Access to the website content is free and does not require an account. We provide the service “as is”, and we may add, change, or remove features and content at any time.
Permitted use
You may use the service freely for your personal learning. You may not:
- Extract, copy, or reproduce the content (stories, course, audio, dictionary) in bulk or by automated means — so-called scraping.
- Redistribute, resell, or present our content as your own.
- Attempt to damage, overload, or breach the security of the service or of other users.
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
Ownership of content
The stories, the course, the audio lessons, the illustrations, and the software of the service are the property of Historias en Japonés or are used under license. Stroke-order diagrams come from the KanjiVG project under its Creative Commons license. The brand, name, and logo belong to Historias en Japonés.
AI-generated content
Part of the educational content (example sentences, assessments, review cards, explanations) is generated or assisted by artificial-intelligence tools and then reviewed. We take care to keep it accurate, but AI can make mistakes: if you spot one, we appreciate you reporting it. Do not rely on it as the sole source for an official exam or for a translation with legal consequences.
JLPT preparation
Our levels and the N5 course are independent preparation material. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Japan Foundation or the official JLPT bodies, and we do not issue official certifications.
Your progress on the website
On the website, your progress is stored on your device, not on our servers (see the privacy notice). For that reason we cannot recover your progress if you clear your browser data or switch devices. If you want your learning to follow you everywhere, that is one of the advantages of the app.
App License Agreement (EULA)
This section is the end-user license agreement between you and Historias en Japonés (the “developer”) for the iOS and Android app. It supplements, and does not replace, the terms of the store you downloaded it from.
License
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, solely for your own learning. You may not copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer, rent, or sublicense the app or its content, except where the law expressly allows it.
Account
Some features (syncing your progress across devices, your cloud deck, challenges, and referrals) require creating an account with Google or with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your access secure and for what happens from your account. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by writing to victormanuelfrancodev@gmail.com; where the app offers it, also from its settings.
Premium content: subscription or points
There are two ways to access the app’s premium content, and they are independent:
- Paid subscription. Purchased through the App Store or Google Play and charged to your account with that store. The price, length, and free trial (if any) are shown in the app and in the store before you buy.
- Points. You can unlock the same content without paying by earning points through your activity in the app (quizzes, phrase of the day, daily streak, challenges, referrals). Points have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and we may adjust how they are earned or how many are required; if we do, we will not take away what you have already unlocked.
Automatic renewal and cancellation
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the same price, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- The renewal is charged to your App Store or Google Play account within 24 hours before the end of the period.
- You manage and cancel it from the subscription settings of your Apple or Google account, not from within the app. When you cancel, you keep access until the period you already paid for ends.
- Refunds are handled by the store under its own policies; we cannot issue them directly. If you have a problem with a charge, write to us and we will guide you.
Advertising
The free version of the app shows third-party ads (Google AdMob). Ads are governed by the ad network’s policies; the use of data for advertising is explained in the privacy notice.
Permissions: microphone and notifications
Pronunciation practice uses the microphone only while you record and only to evaluate your pronunciation; you may deny the permission and the rest of the app works the same. Notifications (review reminders, streak) are optional and can be turned off in your device settings.
Referrals and rewards
The referral program grants points for inviting other people who install and use the app. Creating fake accounts, automating invitations, or any practice to obtain rewards artificially is prohibited; we may withdraw points obtained that way.
Updates and availability
We may release updates that change, add, or remove features, and we may require a minimum version to keep using the app. We do not guarantee that the app is available at all times or on all devices.
Termination
You may stop using the app and uninstall it at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms. Upon termination, the license ends; subscriptions already paid are governed by the terms above.
Apple and Google as third parties
This agreement is between you and the developer, not with Apple or Google. The developer — not Apple or Google — is responsible for the app, its maintenance and support, any warranties required by law, and for addressing any claims relating to the app, including intellectual-property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement with respect to the iOS app and may enforce it. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. embargo and are not on any restricted-parties list. Support: victormanuelfrancodev@gmail.com.
Third-party links and services
The service may link to external services (for example, the app stores, the Discord community, or social networks). We are not responsible for the content or practices of those third-party sites.
Minimum age
The service is not directed at children under 13. If you are a minor under the law of your country, use it with the consent of a parent or guardian.
No warranties and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We take care with the quality of the educational content, but we do not guarantee that it is free of errors or that the service will be uninterrupted. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the service, and our total liability will not exceed what you have paid in the last twelve months.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Mexican States. Any dispute will be resolved before the competent courts of Mexico, without prejudice to the consumer rights granted to you by the law of your country of residence.
Changes
We may update these terms when necessary. The current version will always be on this page with its update date; continued use of the service implies acceptance. If a change affects subscriptions or payments, we will notify you in the app.
